Benevolent Thuggery
The Thugs and EPGP

Please note that this is a work in progress and we will update and adjust as Officers deem necessary and according to the guidelines specified in the Book of Thugs Article 5, Section 3. Loot Rules for DKP Events. Unless otherwise noted in the calendar (non-epgp run), all 10 and 25 man raids will be subject to EPGP rules.

How it works

An explanation of how EPGP works and how it is different from our Burning Crusade zero-sum fixed-price (ZSFP) system.

Both systems track how much you earn and how much you spend. In ZSFP, the amount earned by the raid is equal to the amount spent by whoever takes a piece (including the DE toon). Your "rank" in the system was determined by taking the amount earned and subtracting the amount spent.

In EPGP, the way you earn points (EP) is variable, while the amount you spend on a particular piece of gear (GP) is fixed (although it varies by piece--better gear costs more). What makes EPGP most different however is your rank is determined by taking the amount earned and dividing it by the amount spent.

In addition, EPGP "decays" both your EP and GP numbers to ensure that over time large gains of EP or large purchases (GP) level out and you can get back in the system. Decay also solves the issue of point hoarding and encourages people to roll on gear.

EP - Effort Points

  • EP is earned at a rate of 1000 EP/15 mins. We decided to use a flat rate because there may be many times where we don't down bosses (especially when attempting them for the first time). With this approach, if you are participating in the raid, you get "paid". If you have to leave early for some reason, you are still "paid" for the time you were able to play with us.

  • Waitlisters earn EP at the same rate as people in the raid
  • EP will start accumulating 30 minutes before the run (or when the raid leaders/officers begin invites).
  • EP can also be given out by officers and raid leaders for exemplary behaviors, attitudes, etc.

GP - Gear Points

The official EPGP system for Gear Points (GP) uses an equation that is based on the Item Level, the color (epic, rare, etc) and the slot (head, chest and 2H weapons are worth more than wands).

For those of you who want more detail on the specifics of the math on the GP calculation, see http://code.google.com/p/epgp/wiki/TheSystem.

Other Parameters

Min EP
In order to "purchase" a piece of gear, you need to have a minimum number of EP points. Because we are just beginning the new content, no one will have any EP built up so for now, our Min EP will be 0. We will give notice when/if this will change.

Decay
At the beginning of each raiding week (Tuesday after the reset), the EP and GP are subject to a 25% decay. Because we are applying a percentage at the start of each new raiding cycle instead of doing a subtraction, the points never decay to zero.

Base GP
Base GP is designed to allow the PR number to decay over time thus reducing a person's priority for gear if they have to be absent (not participating). If this number isn't included, then a person's PR would never change (the ratio of the two numbers would always remain the same if decay rate is the same for EP and GP) which would amount to "PR hoarding". Our current Base GP value is 200. As always, when/if we make changes, we will notify the guild ahead of time.

Bidding on items

When an item drops, we will handle bids in the following manner:
  1. Master looter sends all loot items to the raid for bidding via the required EPGPLootmaster addon
  2. Raiders choose "Main Spec", "Offspec/Alt", or "Pass"
    • You must choose "Main Spec" if the item will be used for your Main toon's declared Main Spec
    • You must choose "Offspec/Alt" or "Pass" otherwise.
  3. Loot priority is determined as follows:
    • "Main Spec" bids are always higher priority than "Offspec/Alt" bids
    • "Main Spec" bids for the following exceptions have lower priority than other "Main Spec" bids
      • All Ranged weapons (including wands) for non-hunters
      • Melee weapons for hunters
      • Melee weapons that will be used in the off-hand
    • The bidder's PR value
  4. For "Main Spec" winners, the Lootmaster credits the appropriate GP value from the in-game tooltip to the winning bidder.
    • All shields use the smaller GP value
    • Ranged weapons (including wands) for non hunters will use the smaller GP value
    • Melee weapons for hunters will use the smaller GP value
    • Melee weapons that will be used in the off-hand will use the smaller GP value
    • All other cases will use the larger GP value
  5. For "Offspec/Alt" winners, the Lootmaster credits 10% of the larger GP value displayed in the in-game tooltip.

Whispering for Waitlist EP Payments

We are using the whisper feature in the EPGP addon. Here is how it works:
  1. When the raid is formed, the Raid Leader will say in /g something like this:

Attention all members who were waitlisted for <RUNNAME>: Please whisper me "epgp standby <main name>" to be added to the waitlist for this run. If you are not on the approved waitlist for this run, please ignore this message.

  2. If you are a confirmed waitlist person for the raid listed, it is your responsibility to do the whisper to the raid leader or officer who announced it. Failing to do so will mean you don't get paid. You must do it in exactly this form:

    epgp standby <main_name>

So if I were on waitlist and Tazz was the raid leader who made the announcement, I would type "/w Tazzeon epgp standby Quaiche".

If you have done it correctly, you will get a whisper back from the raid leader's EPGP addon telling you that you have been added to the standby list. This means you will receive the next EP payment.

It does no harm for you to do this more than once, so if you aren't sure, do it again. If you are already on the list when you whisper, the addon will tell you so.

  3. When the next EP payment is made, you will get a whisper telling you that you have been paid. You will also get a whisper telling you that you have been removed from the standby list and that you need to whisper again to be put back on the list. When you see this, simply repeat step 2 above.

If you need to quit the game, just go. Since you won't be there to make the next whisper, you will automatically get removed from EP payments.

If you go AFK and miss a whisper, you may have missed an EP payment which is fine, since you were AFK and not there to be subbed in if the raid needed you. But you can still get back on the list by just re-whispering the raid leader when you come back from AFK.

If you login late and were confirmed waitlisted, send a whisper to a raid leader or officer to find out who the designated EPGP tracker is for that raid and then send your standby whisper to that person.

If you are not on the confirmed waitlist for the run, do not add yourself to the standby list. People found abusing this system to get extra EP will be subject to disciplinary action, possibly including expulsion from the guild. If you aren't sure, check the confirmation forum post. If you still are unsure, send a whisper to any officer or raid leader to find out.

Questions? Ask here or in game. Thanks!

EPGP Bidding with Non-Main Toons
  • When raiding on your main toon but in an alternate role (e.g. a Druid Tank raiding as resto to help the raid), you may bid during the initial on-spec phase of the bidding for your MAIN ROLE only. Alternate role gear may be bidded upon during the "off spec" phase and should you win, you will be charged the "off spec" price.
  • When raiding on an alt toon (e.g Quaiche raiding with Clavain), a similar system applies. You may only bid during the off-spec phase of bidding and will be charged off-spec GP should you win.
